Description The goal of the study is to offer an insight into the problems of research in political beliefs in late adolescence and to lay the ground for the construction of a method for its assessment. The authors ask a question what beliefs concerning the meaningfulness of political engagement the young people form. On the basis of depth interviews (N=9) they assess the enumeration of possible beliefs and then by the means of questionnaire survey (N=358) and statistical elaboration discover their importance and structure. The results suggest the importance of beliefs concerning the negative consequences of the operation in politics, the possible personal profits, the own competence, the influence of politics on the society, the citizens' duty to become engaged, eventually the importance of refusing to be the object of decisions of others. In the conclusion, the authors discuss the issue how to construct the inventory making possible to measure the mentioned beliefs in the future.
