Description The possibility for plant breeding improvement is a tight connection of the genetic and genomic knowledge. It is enabled by advanced research of plant genomes with its characteristic diffusion of the basic and applied research. Identification of DNA markers tightly linked with genes determining important traits enables their application for the marker assisted selection. Also genetic modifications might solve a lot of problems in crops. The current trend is aimed at introduction of several genes into a crop genome and improving of drought tolerance and nutritional quality.
