Description Symbology Encoding (SE) specification, one of Open Geospatial Consortium specifications, is a generalization of older specification called Styled Layer Descriptor (SLD). Its meaning is to standardize description of cartographic symbology on the lowest level, i.e. description of point, line and area symbols This contribution introduces possible expansion of SE specification for symbology on a higher level, mainly chart maps and choropleth maps. This expansion enables utilization of markup language Scalable Vector Graphics, which describes general vector graphics and which is also a source for Symbology Encoding in its present form.
