Description | The goal of this paper is to answer the question whether realism is compatible with theoretical plurality. Firstly, it is argued that it is useful to view realism as a commitment to causal explanation. The definition is based on counterfactual theories of causation. The acceptance of this approach leads to the conclusion that theoretical plurality is possible. Moreover, it can be concluded that theoretical plurality is caused by transitivity and context-sensitivity of causal relation. Finally, this methodological analysis is applied on two alternative monetary theories. |
