| Description | The contribution discusses some of the attempts to reform legal English. It outlines the historical reasons why legal English has attained its current shape. The stylistic recommendations for writing documents in "plain language" are contrasted with the commercialized practices of some of the movements advocating plain English, mainly Plain English Campaign (PEC). The contribution also discusses some of the argumentation strategies used by PEC to justify the need for external infringement with language, as well as its own existence. |
