Description This article is devoted to social economics as an approach to economic theory. It is possible to take social economics as an external product of the marginalist revolution. The revolution with its methodological individualism opened a discussion about different approaches to economic problems. We can find reactions in the Czech economic thinking (Macek) as well as in the world (Walras). There was an intensive disputation on a definition of social economics in 1970s. Following three important social economists (Dugger, Hunt and Waters) we define contemporary social economics as a normative approach comprising a wide range definition of economic categories, with holistic conception of relationship of person and society, concerning about development and studying institutions.
