Description In a screen designed to identify novel targets of BMP4 signaling in telencephalic neural stem cells, we found that the levels of the previously uncharacterized factor CXXC5 were reproducibly up-regulated after BMP4 stimulation. We demonstrate that CXXC5 can interact with the Wnt-signaling intermediate Dishevelled and attenuate Wnt signalling. We conclude that CXXC5 is a BMP4-induced inhibitor of Wnt signaling in neural progenitors.
