| Description | The paper presents a social-historical analysis of occultism. This case of a specific modern religiosity is analyzed to demonstrate that a religion does not tend to disappear under the preasures of modernization, but is rather transformed. Very crucial factors of this transformation are the spread of mediated communication (especially through printed media) and generalization of literacy. These factors are responsible for changes on the level of religious thinking as well as on the level of social organization of religious groups. |
