Description The results of depth sensing indentation technique and the continuous stiffness measurements of mechanical properties (such as hardness and elastic modulus) of mirror polished steel substrates are compared. The Doerner and Nix and Oliver and Pharr methods were used to analyse the loading - unloading dependences, measured by the FISCHERSCOPE H100 tester, using a Vickers indenter. Nanoindenter XP indentation system equipped with continuous stiffness measuremet head was used in the load range from 0,1 to 10 N. The surface properties of the samples were studied using atomic force microscopy.
