Description | In light of contemporary trends in cartographic visualization is advisable to adapt cartographic representation to a user. Map readability is determined by skills and traditions. Depending on users professional orientation, the model of reality, which he is working with, is changing. A map should have reflects this fact. On the other hand there is strong effort for interoperability - possibility to exchange information through maps. The goal is to enable work above one geo-database to diverse users with not only different interests, but also with different views on solved problem by way of the context cartographic visualization. Essential predisposition is ability to translate categories from one users view to the other. To enable such translation is necessary to define types of users and describe their realities. Such a description of user reality is in information science context called ontology. For translation between ontologies are composed thesauri. Uniqueness of using ontologies in cartography is creation of individual symbol sets. These sets can be distinct even in case of description of the same ontology. That happens, for example, if view of users in one category is divided by national traditions. As an example for ontology usage in cartographic visualization is used context visualization of hydrosphere from crisis management view. |
