Description Scanning electron microscope studies of the surface of Eudiplozoon nipponicum parasitic the gill apparatus of carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) have been made to describe tegumentary structures of the following parasite developmental stages: egg, unpaired diporpa and paired juvenile and adult parasite specimens. The egg with long filament is smooth and without superficial structures. The attachment apparatus of unpaired diporpae parasitic the gills of host fish is not fully developed. Typical structure of this parasite stage is papilla located on its dorsal surface and pit on ventral surface which is responsible for the first contact between diporpae during their pairing. Tegumental ridges are present on the dorsal and ventral surfaces of the juvenile and adult parasite forebody, which is also covered with many papillae-like structures that may be sensory. There is a need for a detailed TEM study of the papillae-like structures, to clarify their structure and function.
