Description Plant reproduction involves both asexual propagation (with various types of vegetative reproduction) and sexual reproduction. Alternation of haploid and diploid phases is typical for sexual reproduction. Processes leading to the formation of haploid male and female gamete and their subsequent fusion restoring the diploid state are parts of one plant life cycle. Various types of apomixis represent modified forms of asexual reproduction by which seeds are produced without fertilization.
