Description | Ab initio electronic structure calculations of palladium in the face-centered cubic (fcc), hexagonal close-packed (hcp) and body-centered cubic (bcc) structures were used to analyse possible magnetic ordering. Palladium normally crystallizes in the fcc structure and is paramagnetic. Due to its high density of states at Fermi level, ferromagnetic ordering could occur under extreme volume and/or shape deformation as well as in other crystalline modifications. |
