Description Potential of reverse phase - high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) for separation and determination of polycyclic aromatic nitrogen heterocycles (PANHs) is discussed. Effect of acetonitrile/buffer mobile phase composition on retention behaviour of individual analytes on C18 stationary phases was investigated, to find a suitable conditions for separation of PANHs in a mixture with some other polycyclic aromatic compounds (e.g. PAH). The large variability in mobile phase composition allows effective properties controlling of RP-HPLC determination of PANHs in particular samples. Low limits of detection (LODs) obtained for individual PANHs using two detection techniques (UV-DAD and FD) indicate the possibility to use the method as an alternative method of determination of PANHs in environmental samples. The comparison with other methods of PANHs determination is presented.
