Description The author evaluates a file of patients who had suffered a traumatic injury, the treatment of which started as late as 72 hours and later after the injury. Inflammatory complications were evaluated in patients with the fracture of the angle and body of the mandible. The risk of inflammatory complication occurrence increased by the treatment delay, drug and alcohol abuse. The most endangered location was the mandibular angle. Application of antibiotics in the delay period showed the principal effect on the occurrence of the inflammatory complications. From among the patients who applied antibiotics during the delay period, not a single patient developed any inflammatory complication.
