| Description | Therapeutical possibilities in low responsiveness to the first antidepressant are summarized. Combinations of antidepressants are discussed in detail. In clinical practise, combination of antidepressants is primarily used to overcome drug resistance and to control side effect and residual symptoms. Controlled double-blind studies are scare; the last review article onlz reported eight of these. Combinations of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors(SSRI) or serotonin noradrenalin reuptake inhibitors (SNRI) with mirtazapine are promising in overcoming drug resistance. Combination of SSRI and bupropion is most frequently used in SSRI related sexual dysfunction management. Antidepressant combinations increase the risk of serotonin syndrome. |
