Description Groundwater close to the head of the Buena Lagoon in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil has high salinity and low pH values. There is a correlation between Ra and light rare elements (LREE), suggesting there common origin in monazite. Radionuclides are present as positively charged ions at low pH values and they are increasingly adsorbed with increasing pH.
