Description	Transformation of economy in 1990s afflicted even the industry in the second largest city of the Czech Republic. Brno used to be for many decades an important industrial basis with a long-term tradition. Dominance of textile industry was replaces after 1945 by dominance of machinery. The article attempts to detect changes that took place after 1990 in Brno industry immense decline in employment, lost of unique position of four machinery giants (Zetor, První brněnská strojírna, Zbrojovka and Královopolská strojírna), factual liquidation of manufacturing of textiles all with negative impact on the regional labour market.
