Description DEMS is a type of experimental technique, which makes possible a direct MS investigation of electro-sorption, electro-oxidation and electro-hydrogenation processes. The experimental set-up consists of a PC controlled mass spectrometer TRIO 1000 (Finnigan MAT, Fisons Instruments, USA) connected with an electrochemical cell made from PTFE connected to the direct inlet of the mass spectrometer. Polycrystalline Pt disc controlled by Autolab PGSTAT100 (Ecochemie, The Netherlands) served as working electrode. The results of measurement are presented as plots of ion current of parent-hydrocarbons and hydrogenation products as potential function of working electrode. Simultaneously with ion current-potential curves (MSCV - curves) the faradaic current-potential curves were acquired as well. It is shown that comparing to direct electro-reduction of C-halogen bond in nonaqueous medium, in acid water solution the dehalogenation even C-fluorine bond proceeds at rather low potential.
