Description Otoliths from the Lower Miocene of the Torino-Monferrato Hills reveal the presence of 77 teleost taxa. Two could be described as a new species: Gadomus saltans and Centroberyx manens. The association essentially reflect oceanic fish communities (mesopelagic and bathybenthic). This Lower Miocene fish fauna is placed in a global view of the biogeographic evolution of the Paleomediterranean, from Rupelian till Recent times.
