Description There are increased concentrations of radionuclides in groundwater in Regiao de Lagos close to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Radium and uranium are present as positively charged species and they are very mobile under low pH conditions. They are adsorbed when pH increases. Another factor, responsible for high radionuclides concentrations is high salinity of groundwater.
