| Description | The paper discusses the idea that pronatal population policy can change the current very low Czech fertility rate. The advocates of pronatal policy believe: 1. that demography can tell us what will be the future retility rates; 2. that low fertility has negative effects on economic development of society; 3. that there are desires to have more than a one child and had not it been for economic and social barriers, the parents whoul have had two and more children; 4. that the active pronatal policy can stimularte higher fertility. The paper opposes this view and argues that these four assumptions are not true. Therefore, logically, it is a myth to believe that there is a direct relationship betewwn the level of popualtion policy and fertility rates. |
