Description This contribution deals with the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises in economy, it emphasises especially the role of small craftsmen. It gives a view on statistical data that are monitored in European countries. It shows that statistical data can not be fully and homogenously measured at European level because in various countries there exist various ways how to define craftsmen. The situation in the Czech Republic is described, there is writen shortly how czech law defines crafts. At the end of the article there is a suggestion of solution from European Union for creating the same definitions of craftsmen.
