Description The article deals with street names in Brno (Czech Republic), which are formed from exonyms, common geographical names. Out of a total of 40 of these names, only one name has an orientation function (Vídeňská according to the direction to the Austrian metropolis Vienna) and therefore a direct connection to the locality. The other names refer indirectly to the locations and thus have an honorific function. Most of these names were created in the 1950s-1970s in connection with dynamic housing estate construction and their motivation was often in line with the socialist ideology of the time - e.g. the names in the Bohunice housing estate Arménská, Gruzínská, Běloruská, Moldavská after former Soviet republics: "Armenian street", "Georgian street", "Belarusian street", "Moldavian street".
