Description The aim of this chapter is to offer an overview of the current findings concerning the psychosocial aspects of the end of life decision-making in patients. Factors entering into this process from the side of the doctor and nurses are discussed, and the perspective of dying patients and their relatives is also taken into account, with an emphasis on their needs, values and preferences. Special attention is also paid to various aspects of communication related to the end of life, both in the interaction of doctors and nurses with patients and their family members, as well as among the health professionals. In conclusion, the specific possibilities of psychological support provided to patients at the end of life and the benefits of involving a psychologist in a team of healthcare workers are outlined.
