Description Histone deacetylase inhibitors are substances whose antitumor activity is associated with inhibition of cell proliferation, induction of programmed cell death, inhibition of angiogenesis, and induction of the cytodifferentiation process in tumor cells. Effective inhibitors of histone deacetylase enzymes include hydroxamic acids. In this group you can find registered anticancer drugs, among which it is possible to name eg vorinostat or panobinostat. In vitro analyzes of the antiproliferative and proapoptotic effects of vorinostat on selected types of leukemic cells demonstrated the sensitivity of the monocyte leukemic cell line THP-1 to this effect of vorinostat, including induction of cytodifferentiation.
