Description Biodiversity loss, mass species extinction, environmental degradation and pollution, resource depletion, climate change, water scarcity, lacking energy security and supply, the need for ever-increasing food production, conflicts and terrorism, mass migration, and emerging diseases (of which the COVID-19 pandemic is one example). The key drivers of these catastrophic threats are human overpopulation and ongoing rapid population growth in developing countries alongside excessive consumption in developed countries. Though scientific databases are full of papers confirming that human numbers are the real root of these large 21st century challenges, politicians, decision-makers and international non-scientific organizations pretend the problem does not exist – or try to act on it in secret while pretending the problem does not exist. These chapters deal with different groups denying overpopulation and motives for such behaviour that causes further harm. They conclude by appealing for the rapid addition and improvement of environmental education – alongside sexuality education – to instil environmental ethics and literacy in future generations. Such educational initiatives can bring about new hope for our posterity to take a more holistic and long-term approach to the challenges we face in contrast from current generations, which have failed so bitterly.
