Description | Museums conduct scientific research, documentation and presentation of historical and present development of nature, mankind and human society and with their orientation on natural sciences, technology or humanities they encompass all disciplines and fields of human activities. They provide their visitors with an insight into individual disciplines and topics, using attractive collection items or their substitutes with the aim to strengthen the relationship of visitors to the one or another region and to its cultural, technological and natural heritage. Museums with their educational activities create an optimal and stimulating platform for non-formal education, which is working with concepts like the activation of visitors, principle of visual presentation, hands-on approach, learning from exhibits, authenticity, experience and elements of edutainment. They offer various formats of educational programmes and didactic tools for different target groups – children, adults, seniors, families, visitors with special needs, but also schools and other organisations working with children and youth. Through an insight into education in varied milieus we can find certain parallels or, on the contrary, specific differences in professional competences of museum pedagogues and teachers, whose collaboration can bring new knowledge and enhancement of their work. |
