Description Foreign language learning is influenced by numerous different factors. One of these is motivation, which is being taken for the factor with the greatest influence on learning and with the greatest intervention potential at the same time. This characteristic can be used by the German teacher in order to stimulate the motivation or to raise and sustain and thereby support the learning achievement of the student. This contribution describes the methodology of a research carried out at three grammar schools, focusses on the presentation of obtained data and summarizes the gained findings regarding the subject of motivating students to learn German through the teacher.
