Description | Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a disease with multifactorial etiopathogenesis, in which the genetic predisposition of an individual also plays a role. Epidermal growth factor (EGF) and its receptor (EGFR) are involved in maintaining tissue integrity and restoring epithelium in injury, two of the main mechanisms that protect esophageal tissue from reflux. |
