Description The reconstruction of a middle room in the south wing of the Velké Meziříčí chateau revealed a series of late medieval stove tiles. This chronological determination is defied by a tile with the Czech lion on the shield, the origin of which is sought in the late 14th century, and a tile with mirror-shaped geometrical segmentation from the 16th century. In the series, 12 motifs on the front heated wall were identified, of which at least six might have come, due to the format, size, artistic rendering of the relief and material, from a single stove (walking Czech lion, knight, dice players, dragon and the evangelists Matthew and John). A fragment with the relief of the Virgin Mary differs from this group through its size, type and material; it belongs with a collection with the subject of the Adoration of the Magi from the New Testament, widespread not only in the Czech lands in the last quarter of the 15th century. Finds of analogical tiles bear witness of Velké Meziříčí potters’ frequent contact with craftsmen from Moravia and Czech Silesia.
