Description | It is a fact that limited public finance resources as the only financing instrument used for public infrastructure investment impedes sustainable infrastructural development. The current macro-economic climate limits the constant expansion of public debt and fiscal deficits with negative impact on the primary financing options for public infrastructure investment. Public-private partnerships (PPPS) are now frequently used is an alternative option suitable for long-term financing of public infrastructure investment. This article explores the role of PPPs as an alternative financing instrument for public infrastructure investment. It indicates pros and cons of this instrument and defines main factors determining success of PPPs. The core conclusion of this article is that PPPs are not the source of extra resources, but specific financial tool, which has to be properly implemented to deliver positive results. |
