Description The western conifer seed bug, Leptoglossus occidentalis Heidemann, 1910, is an invasive species, introduced to Europe and Asia from its origin homeland in North America. Species sucks on seeds of Pinaceae. For the first time inn Europe, the species was found in Italy already in 1999 (Tescari 2001: Lavori 26: 3–5); in the present time, the species is known in 33 European countries. Although the first published record from Slovakia falls to 19. October 2007 (Majzlan & Roháčová 2007: Naturae Tutela 11: 199–200), some later published papers show records already in 2005 (Hrubík & Kollár 2010: Acta horticulturae et regiotecturae – mimoriadne číslo: 51–55), 23. May 2006 (Kollár et al. 2009: Plant Protect. Sci. 45/3: 119–124), 2. July 2007 (Barta 2008: Dendrol. dni v Arboréte Mlyňany SAV: 307–314) and 1. and 8. October 2007 (Hradil et al. 2008: Klapalekiana 44: 165–206). The species is published only from western Slovakia (see above cited ones + Barta 2009: Forestry Journal 55/2: 139–144) and from one locality in central Slovakia (Bernáthová 2010: Štiavnické noviny 21/16: 5); the large majority of country is without published data. Therefore, I intensivelly collect locality data from various parts of country in order to map out the distribution of the species in Slovakia. I have already collected data from northern, central, southern and eastern parts of country, which could mean that the species is relatively widespread through the whole country – but this presumption will have to be supported by more data. Therefore, I welcome informations about any records, photographs or observations of L. occidentalis in Slovakia, which you can send me via e-mail on vladimir.hemala@gmail.com or via post to address: Jalovec 32, 032 21 Bobrovec, Slovakia, resp. to address of Department of botany and zoology of Masaryk University in Brno.
