| Description | In the article Ecclesiology, Christology and Magic: Cognitive Reconsideration of Pauline Lord's Supper Vojtěch Kaše investigates the Pauline meal tradition from the perspective of ritual theory. According to Kaše, the recent scholarship, in most cases, has overemphasized communal aspect of the meal. Much less attention has been paid to the ritual aspect. To push the scholarship into this direction, Kaše analyzes the materiel by using the theory of ritualized behavior, the ritual competence theory developed by Lawson and McCauley, and the cognitive theory of magic, especially in its combination with the conceptual blending theory. Kaše's analysis demonstrates that the metaphorical language used by Paul in the association with bread and Christ's body cannot by constrained by communal understanding of the bread as the church, but that it also opens a scope for a christological interpretation. Therefore, Kaše concludes, purely ecclesiological interpretation of eucharistic origins is inevitably insufficient. |
