Description The paper presented first results of the survey "Quality of life of older people in rural areas". The results present rural areas as rather changing, and thoses changes are, in general, perceived as improvements. However, the changes bringing improvement could be ambivalent (e.g. traffic). The perception of the environmental risks is lower in rural areas as opposed to urban areas, and could be related to more stable social connectedness/control. The perception of tourist industry development in rural areas is positive (as opposed to more negative views in urban elderly). As expected, dissatisfaction with services is common feature.
