Description The paper deals with the issue of inter-municipal cooperation between cities in a polycentric settlement system. Specifically, it focuses on eleven comparably meaningful cities on the border of Bohemia and Moravia in the eastern part of the Pardubice Region. These are the cities Svitavy, Česká Třebová, Ústí nad Orlicí, Vysoké Mýto, Moravská Třebová, Lanškroun, Litomyšl, Choceň, Letohrad, Žamberk and Jablonné nad Orlicí with a total population of over 115 000 inhabitants. All of the above cities except Svitavy and Moravská Třebová belong historically to Bohemia and all except Svitavy, Moravská Třebová and Lanškroun lies outside the Sudetenland. The main aim of the paper is to map the level and themes of inter-municipal cooperation between these cities and to verify whether and how this cooperation is taking place or not taking place through current or historical borders. The research question is defined in the form 'In what meanings the theme of 'border' is appeared in the statements of municipal representatives about inter-municipal cooperation?' The article is based on a series of semi-structured interviews were realized with representatives of selected cities in January 2011, from which concluded that the borders play in any case declared cooperation different meaning. Somewhere municipal borders were more central themes, regional or land elsewhere. It confirms the assumption that cooperation is declared between municipalities that were and are separated a smaller number of these borders.
