Citation
Description The baroque sketch-book of the Premonstratensian order painter and creator of iconographic programmes, Dionýsius Strauss (1660-1720) includes various sketches and engravings. According to the former research, Strauss obtained the sketch-book in Rome during his study stay (1691-1692). In the sketch-book, there should be various sketches, whose authors are searched in the circle of Carlo Maratti (1625-1713) and Giovanni Battista Gaulli – Il Baciccio (1639-1709). After his return, Strauss wrote his own iconographic programmes and drew his own sketches in this sketch-book. Based on our analysis of Strauss sketch-book, this interpretation should be revised. The reason for this reinterpretation is a new authorship of some drawings, which leads also to reinterpretation of the whole sketch-book.
