Description The Czech cities are under long-term pressure from international retailers which is also reflected in the changing shopping behaviour of the urban population and those living in the suburbs. Their preferences towards a certain store are often subliminally strongly influenced by the sophisticated marketing activities of the retail chains. The paper addresses the topic of large-scale retail development in Olomouc and the analysis of the large-scale retail facilities in the internal structure of the city. This is followed by an analysis of the shopping behaviour of the urban population.
