Description | The paper focuses on the course English in Politics and EU Institutions as one of the results of the innovation of the original course English for Academic Purposes at the Faculty of Social Studies. It is primarily intended for students of political science, international relations, European studies, and journalism. Each seminar material is composed of two parts. The first part, which forms the core of the course, focuses on linguistic aspects of political discourse. The objective is to familiarize students with particularities of the language used in politics and to teach them to look critically at political jargon commonly used in English speaking countries. The second part focuses on political and EU terminology and should prepare students for their possible future careers in EU institutions. The goal is to break away from conventional teaching of specialized language and focus rather on linguistic aspects of politics. |
