Citation
Description The book focuses on the role which raw energy materials, primarily oil, play in the realm of the USA foreign affairs. Besides their key role centered around the issues of international political nature, the United States are accordingly the key player in the field of the global energy security. The first chapter capture the historical development of oil industry in the United States during the second half of the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th centuries. The attention is in the second chapter switched to the position which oil possesses in the realm of country’s foreign affairs. The third chapter describes the circumstances under which the so called oil weapon is used. The fourth chapter afterwards comes with the analysis of the supply and demand crisis by addressing the events which can, at the first glance, resemble the usage of the aforementioned “oil weapon”, but differ in their causes, character or impacts. The challenges that emerged in domestic sphere of the US oil policy after the end of the Cold War are analyzed in the fifth chapter. This part of the book is succeeded by chapter dealing with the hegemonic position of the United States in the contemporary system of international relations and its consequences for the world oil market. It is further supplemented by chapter that raises the discussion about the challenges which the United States, as the largest world consumer, faces in the area of the global oil market framework. The analysis of selected US oil suppliers follows, portraying the relations with Canada, Latin America, south Caucasus and middle Asian countries. In the concluding chapters of the work, the authors then devoted to the provision of the smooth supplying process to the US, that is, the marine transportation of raw materials, as well as to the dramatic changes in the field of the north-American gas industry associated with the advent of unconventional gas resources.
