| Description | During 53 years of archaeological excavations at the Great Moravian stronghold of Břeclav-Pohansko only three lead crosses were found which are generally being associated with introduction of Christianity to the territory under the rule of the Mojmirids. Two specimens were discovered in the backfill of a settlement feature (Feature 42 – Manor court, Feature 150 – Northeastern suburb) and one in grave of an adult female SVP/134 near the rotunda in the Northeastern suburb as well. Each of the crosses has a different shape. The artefacts from Grave SVP/134 and from Feature 42 only hardly find analogies. The cross from Feature 150 belongs to group of the so-called missionary cross pendants of the Velké Bílovice type. Based on a comprehensive evaluation of finding conditions, all of the finds described above can be classed with the advanced or late Great Moravian settlement phase at Pohansko. |
