Description Exfoliative toxin A (ETA) producing strains of S. aureus cause serious epidermolytic diseases that affect mostly newborns and young children. The gene encoding ETA is carried by prophage integrated in bacterial chromosome. Eta gene can be transferred to different bacterial strain by horizontal gene transfer. The objective of this work was to characterize genome of the ETA phages from Siphoviridae family, which are responsible for mass epidermolytic infections in 2 maternity hospitals.
