Description During the second half of the last century we can observe a significant increase in government spending and scope of government activities in most developed countries. In parallel with the growth of government size economic growth was slowing. This led to an extensive discussion of whether there is a relationship between the size of government and growth of the product and, if so, whether this relationship is negative or positive. This paper focuses on the theoretical definition of the relationship between government size and economic growth in the sight of Armey curve. Further the evolution of these variables in the Czech Republic and the Slovakia since the mid 90 years to the present is described. It was confirmed that in both economies, there is a hint of a negative correlation between the size of government and economic growth, especially since the late 90 years, and is more pronounced in the Slovakia
